Chester Evans

Obituary of Chester Lee Evans

Chester Lee Evans, 83 of Olympia, Washington went to be with the Lord, July 13, 2106. Chester was born in Springfield, Missouri to William and Jennie Evans, on March 5, 1933. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1951, and married the love of his life Sharon Lee Skeen, December 13, 1953. They shared 62 wonderful years together before she went to heaven ahead of him, October 26, 2015. They were a faithful example of love and devotion to all. Chesters work included, Boeing, Pacific NW Bell and for the Washington State Department of Transportation until he retired in 1982. He kept in touch with his friends he worked with and enjoyed their lunches and trips down memory lane. He loved his family and treasured the times spent with them. He often told the grandkids crazy stories of how he lost his hair or funny things he did as a boy. His most favorite story was how he met Sharon. She swept him off his feet the moment he laid eyes on her when she was 14. He never tired of talking about their early years and all fun they had together. He loved the beach and especially enjoyed the years they lived in Ocean Shores. Some of the grandkids even had their first experience “driving” with Grampa on the sand. Some of his other favorite things were his dogs, especially Hildie and Sally. They went with him everywhere. He fed them ice cream cones and cheeseburgers, no wonder they loved him too. He was a car buff and enjoyed driving and owning over 65 different cars through the years. From classics to the newest sports car, he got a kick out of them all. Chester is survived by his daughters Linda and husband Larry Zink, Laura and her husband Alan Canida, and son Bill Evans. Also by his loving grandchildren, Summer and husband Brad Scandrett, Crystal and husband Rick Erickson, Brianna and husband Kyle Stewart and Ryan Zink, Jeremy Howell and wife Kacie, and Andrew Howell. He also was blessed to have 10 great grandchildren, Aiden, Abby, Alyssa and Asher Erickson, Canyon, Sage and Haven Scandrett, Maddison and Teagen Stewart and the newest little guy, Lucas Howell. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Women’s Club of Olympia, (Abigail Stuart House - 1002 Washington St SE, Olympia) on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 from 12pm-3pm.
