Shelly Solman

Obituary of Shelly Ann Solman

How do you begin to summarize one’s life; to compress it down to a few short paragraphs? Well, Shelly was faithful, humble, loving, dedicated, strong willed, and yes occasionally opinionated. Matthew 22:36b-39 states: ‘You shall love the Lord with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ I believe this is how she lived. Born in Bremerton, WA. Shelly was welcomed into life by her parents, Vince and Ruth Watson, her older sister Tracy and followed by her fraternal twin Pam. She grew up in Belfair, WA. into a young woman who at the age of fourteen met a young man a couple years her senior and began dating during her freshman year. The two high school sweethearts, Shelly and Larry Solman, would later graduate North Mason High School and be married on November 11, 1994 establishing a home in Belfair. Their son Gabriel was born fifteen months later. This event contributed to Shelly’s conviction of returning to her childhood roots of attending church. This young family began attending Christ the Rock Community Church in Port Orchard, WA. where they quickly grew in their knowledge and fear of the Lord. Cancer struck this vibrant woman in 2011 and a battle ensued. With much prayer, chemo, and a double mastectomy came victory! This victory only lasted four and a half years when the news came again. More prayer, chemo, and radiation and another victory was proclaimed though short lived as cancer reared its ugly head only a few months later. In this third, cancer had invaded her lungs. More prayer and a valiant fight resulted in a battle won not by treatment but won in death. The Lord called her home and who are we to question the Creator and Sustainer of life? Shelly was faithful to the end and loved to her last breath. First Corinthians 13:13 says this: “But now faith, hope, love, abide in these three; but the greatest of these is love.” Keeping God’s commandments will not result in eternal life in heaven. Only the gift of salvation offered through Jesus Christ will allow us through those gates. Following the commandments is a response of love to the gift Jesus gives and Shelly loved well. Memorial service to be held Sat. Feb. 3 at 2:00 pm Christ the Rock Community Church 4100 Old Clifton Road Port Orchard WA 98367
