Phillip worked at the Putney Paper Company in Putney Vermont from 1945-1950. He joined the Army in 1950 and was stationed in Germany.
He worked for ESCO in Portland. He worked in the foundry. Phillip really liked ESCO. After he retired, he continued to stay involved with the company. If there was a company luncheon or tour, he was there. Phillip had many friends there.
In 1986, Phillip married Margie (my grandma). They met at the Clairmont Club in Oregon City. They both enjoyed dancing. Margie and Phil married on October 16, 1986 at the Hitching Post in Reno, Nevada.
Phillip loved excitement! We spent a Thanksgiving family vacation in California one year. At Knott's Berry Farm, Phillip went on all of the thrill rides! He especially enjoyed the ride that was a free fall drop from 20 or 30 stories. ( I cannot remember how high it was. All I know is that we were both SCREAMING.)
We went to Las Vegas in 1995. It was a great trip. One evening, we all went to see Tom Jones perform at the MGM Grand. It was so fun. Phillip talked to every single person at every single place we went! Every elevator, every line, every crosswalk, every slot machine! To say Phil was a social person is an understatement.
Phillip and Margie traveled to Arizona in the winter for many years. Phil loved it there. He has many, many friends in Yuma. He played penny ante Texas Hold'em everyday with his friends. I went for a visit to Yuma once. It was great to meet all of Phillip and Margie's friends. We played bingo, ate at buffets, shopped downtown and visited with lots of great people.
Phillip loved to read. We was always giving someone in the family a new book to read. He also liked to work the daily crossword puzzle.
Margie and Phillip liked to go to the casino for fun. Phillip always got a "free" deck of playing cards or anything else that was "free". There is a big box filled with playing cards somewhere at the house! They went to the casino with Chris and Steve once a month and stayed for lunch.
Phillip was a fun grandpa. He will be missed.
Love, Misti
