Obituary of Robert Ivie Towhey

Robert I. Towhey Robert (Bob) I. Towhey, 90, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on February 17, 2015. Bob was born December 6, 1924 to Robert and Isabel (Spence) Towhey in Seattle, Wa. He grew up in West Seattle at Alki and became a member of a group of friends who fondly were known as the “Alki Rats” where they called him “Tuffy”, a nickname given by his Mom. Those friends kept in touch throughout their lives and would meet regularly for lunch for many years while they were able. Bob graduated from West Seattle High School and shortly after joined the Air Force during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946 he attended The University of Washington and went on to employment at Boeing and WADOT until his retirement. Bob married Joan King in 1954 where they were happily married until her passing in 2010. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Joan, son Bruce (2011), and sister Kathleen Kreiger. He is survived by daughter Leslie (Terry) Peterson, son Bryan (Mami) Patterson, daughter-in-law Gay Lynn Towhey, grandchildren Talon (Kendra) Towhey, Teagan Towhey, Trevor (Tiffany) Peterson, Jonathan Peterson, great-grandson Kelon Towhey, sister Janet Backman, Seattle, and sister Roberta Towhey, Fruitvale, BC. Bob was an avid golfer and past president of the Bayshore Golf Club, and involved with the Lions club for many years. Bob will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his schedules and agendas, and always being there to help. He lived his life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by family and those who knew him. Funeral Mass – 2:00p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, St. Edwards Catholic Church, Shelton, Wa.
