Obituary of Dale Ellis McMann

Dale was born December 4, 1945 in Olympia, Wa to Patricia Jean (Hueter) and Johnny Franklin McMann. He was one of ten siblings. After finishing high school in Martinez, Ca he returned to Olympia where he attended Bates College and received his Journeyman Machinist Apprenticeship on January 7, 1969. Dale married Janice Bostic in Olympia on June 10, 1967. After completing his apprenticeship training he enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam era. He was stationed in San Diego, Ca and served aboard the USS Jason and the USS Southerland. One son, Eric, was born just before Dale was honorably discharged from the Navy. The family returned to Olympia where Dale worked on his father-in-law’s charter fishing boat, and eventually moved to Shelton when Dale came to work for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Machinist and Environmental Protection Specialist. He retired on March 3, 2003 after 32 years of service. Dale was baptized on April 13, 1969 and then confirmed on March 26, 1989 where he immediately became involved in various service ministries at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church as an elder, usher, president, vice president, trustee, property manager, schools board chair and administer of the Mt Olive school endowment. He was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the daycare/preschool and the K-1 elementary school. In his free time he was a soccer coach, enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving, hiking, photography, sailing traveling, working on his home and yard, feeding and watching the squirrels and hummingbirds. He loved his family and everything about being a grandpa. He was a kind, loving and wonderful man who was always there to help someone in need. Dale was called home to be with his Lord the morning of August 17, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Alan. He is survived by his wife Janice, one son Eric, his daughter-in-love Melissa, granddaughter Eadaoin; brothers John, Tom Gettys, James O’Reamer, sisters Robin Singer, Jackie Bennett, LeEtta Ottman, Patti Ottman and Yvonne Youell, and several nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Shelton, Wa on August 29, at 11:00 am with interment following on September 11 at 1:00 p.m at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wa.
